Exquisite 1950s dress by Maxwell Shieff. Black chantilly lace, illusion bodice, 4 layer taffeta and tulle skirt, metal back zipper. Snaps at collar and wrists. Rare designer piece.
Maxwell Shieff was a Hollywood designer and costumer. Known for The D.I. (1957), Unkissed Bride (1966) and Sunday Showcase (1959). He counted among his clients such stars as Ginger Rogers, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Rhonda Flemming. He designed all the clothes for Gracie Allen for the "Burns and Allen" show.
