Victorian Black Maternity Blouse with Lace Trim

Lovely and extremely unique, this black bodice with lace trim is fitted in the back and loose in the front. It has four enameled buttons and two snap closures.

There is a tie on the inside, perhaps to attach to another piece of clothing?

The bottom and the cuffs are trimmed in a beautiful black lace.

After asking for a bit of help with identifying this piece, I have come to the conclusion that it very likely was a maternity blouse, and that it was possibly altered from an older bodice.

My best estimation is that this dates from sometime between the 1890s and 1900s, though it could be slightly older.

The snaps in the front are a bit confusing, and lead me to believe they were added at a later date.

Laid flat, armpit to armpit: 17"

Waist, free.

Length from base of collar to bottom hem, including lace: 23"

13.5" between shoulder seams.

This blouse is in very good condition with minor wear. There is a small hole in the lace trim around the bottom and a few small scattered moth holes that are not very noticeable.

It feels strong and wearable with care.
