Lovely faux tortoise shell aide-memoire or pocket book circa mid-19th century.
Letters on the front appear to be DMI (or some other variation/order).
Inside is a single sheet of "paper" that is reusable and a pencil. There is also space inside for small items, such as currency notes.

Lovely condition overall with some age-related wear and a chip in one corner, as shown (mostly only visible on the interior).
Pencil seems to function but lacks any lead. Clasp mechanism functions well and stays shut securely.
