One of the most incredible fabrics I've ever come across! This bodice circa late 1890s (around 1897) is a very special piece, likely best for study or display due to its condition.
The fabric is woven with different colored yarns to create the moon pattern. It feels like a wool or wool blend. It is trimmed with black silk and lined with polished cotton.
It is heavily padded in and around the bust and underarms. Interestingly, the boning is inside the lining. There is an inner waistband but it is missing the hook and eye closure.
The front of the bodice closes with hooks and eyes down the center. There is a beaded lace overlay. Beneath that there is evidence of a cream colored silk lining, which has since disintegrated and is mostly gone.
A very fine, unique piece, and an excellent addition to a collection!

Condition is fair. It is best for study or display. The black silk collar and trimming is very worn with holes. Some beading is missing or loose. The original cream silk lining beneath the lace front is mostly gone.
However, the woven fabric is in good condition overall and very sturdy. It would make a wonderful study piece and would be beautiful for display.
