Gorgeous, museum quality printed dress circa 1840s to 1850s. The fabric is a semi-sheer, slightly stiff cotton.
The bodice is lined and has hook and eye closures up the center front of the lining. Outer bodice has no closures. There are two hooks and eyes at the waist that are not original to the dress and are later additions.
Seam piping around the waist, collar, cuffs, and armscyes.
The skirt is unlined except for the hem. There is a single, deep pocket on the right side.
I love the pattern on this dress! Dark red-brown in color with lighter tan spots! I have never seen one quite like it. All other similar patterns have featured smaller dots, but these larger ones, and the darker color, make this a very charming and unique piece.
There is a name written inside the bodice in pencil, and I believe it says "Davenport".
This piece is completely hand sewn.
34" bust
30" waist
53" length
Condition is quite good considering the delicate fabric. There are some flaws to note:
Overall this is a beautiful study or display piece. Due to its age and delicate nature of the fabric, this is not a wearable piece.
This item is not new, and as such, it has wear commensurate with age. As with all older vintage and antique items, please handle with care.
All items are sold as-is, and I do my best to point out all condition issues and provide a detailed description and photographs.
